Furniture Care
Upholstery
- Vacuum your furniture at least once a month.
- Turn and rotate the cushions of your upholstered item at least once a month. This will prevent uneven wear and premature breakdown of the cushion cores.
- Blot any spills immediately with a dry, clean cloth. Do not rub the fabric to clean the soiled area.
- Fabric protectors help to increase the useful life of an upholstered piece by protecting the fabric from soil and stains. A protective finish does not eliminate the necessity of properly caring for the fabric. It modifies the absorbency and soil removal characteristics. It does not put a plastic cover on it. Spills and stains should be cleaned immediately following the manufacturer's care code instructions (W, S, or WS) for the specific fabric.
- Code W: Vacuum frequently. Spot clean using a water-based cleaning agent, such as a mild detergent or non-solvent upholstery shampoo product.
- Code S: Vacuum frequently. Spot clean using a mild water-free solvent or a dry cleaning fluid. Clean only in a well-ventilated area and avoid any product containing carbon tetrachloride, which is highly toxic. Pretest a small area before cleaning.
- Code WS: Vacuum frequently. Spot clean using a mild water-free solvent or dry cleaning fluid. With either method, pretest a small area before cleaning.
- For every fabric, professional cleaning is recommended when an overall soiled condition has been reached.
Leather
Clean leather often, as frequent and gentle cleaning is easier on leather than less frequent, more aggressive cleaning.
Cleaning will remove built-up dirt, skin oils and perspiration.
Protected (Pigmented) and Semi-aniline Leathers
Clean with a mild soap and water solution. Use a mild soap with a neutral pH. Rinse with a clean, damp cloth to
remove any soap residue. Do not use a soap product that is harsh on your skin, as it will be harsh on the leather.
Always test the soap solution in an unseen area on the sofa to ensure that the solution does not damage the leather
(no leather color transfer on to your cloth).
Natural (Aniline) Leathers
Clean with only a slightly damp cloth. Do not use any type of soap on natural (aniline) leather.
Wood Products
- Dust your furniture on a weekly basis.
- To clean your furniture, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry using another soft cloth - always going with the grain of the wood.
- We recommend Guardsman Furniture Polish when polishing your furniture. Gently apply the polish with the grain of the wood and then buff with a clean dry cloth. We do not recommend polishes that contain wax for weekly cleaning.
- Use coasters or felt pads under accessories. Moisture or heat damage could occur on the wood if items sit on the wood unprotected for an extended period of time.
- Blot any spills immediately and clean as directed above.
- Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or where it is exposed to intense heat, cold or dampness.
Mattress Care
Cleaning
Vacuuming is the only recommended cleaning method.
If you must clean a stain, use mild soap with cold water
and apply lightly! Do not ever soak a mattress or
foundation, and don't use dry cleaning fluid of any
type on your mattress. These chemicals could damage
some of the comfort and upholstery materials.
Rotate Your Mattress

We recommend that you rotate your new mattress
on a regular basis to refresh its comfort. Mattresses
contain many layers of upholstery padding to increase
their comfort life and support performance. Body
indentations can be a normal occurrence in new
mattresses, and indicate that the upholstery layers
are conforming to a person's individual body contours.
To help minimize body impressions, mattresses
should be turned occasionally throughout their life.
For convenience, we have illustrated the best method.
Many of today's mattresses use technologically advanced foams and fibers that are designed to be softer and more comfortable while ensuring your body has the support you need for good health. Even using the best components, the materials utilized for the comfort layers will naturally settle and compress due to the weight and shape of the user. These body impressions are not a structural or design defect, but a normal result from use. It will not affect the support and conformance of the mattress. Body impressions are not covered under the limited warranty.
